Pupils from all year groups are able to apply to members of parliament being either a minister, the speaker, the deputy prime minister or the prime minister.

Pupils have the opportunity to represent the school in the local community taking part in a number of exciting projects that build on their skills and build their confidence. Pupils also have the opportunity to become part of the wider community across the Waterton Academy Trust.

What we do:

Our recently elected School Parliament meets every two weeks. The aim of the School Parliament is to give the children of South Kirkby Academy School a greater voice in what happens in school. The Parliament Ministers discuss issues with their year groups and bring concerns and suggestions back to the meeting. The Parliament decides what actions need to be taken to improve our school.

These may include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events.

Members of the School Parliament are responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as: what to spend fund raising money on; improving reward time across the school or planning new playground activities.

Being a school parliamentarian is a really responsible job and at South Kirkby Academy, School Parliament is a powerful and effective way to ensure children understand democracy, responsibility and what makes a good citizen.

The School Parliament Mission Statement:

To make sure that our school is a safe and happy place for children.

To make sure that children have a place to voice their concerns.

To encourage all children in school to suggest improvements.

To make sure any suggestion or concerns are listened to and acted upon.

School Parliament joins the Council for a meeting

On Friday 29th January, the School Parliament met with the Council at the Council Chambers to host a meeting on improving events within the community from a child's perspective. We thank the Council for welcoming us and inspiring us. We look forward to future partnerships.
